SCHOOL MEALS - PROGRAM UPDATES
A. New applications must be submitted every year in order to qualify for free or reduced-priced school meals and Summer EBT reimbursement.
-
The “Reduced” category is being treated as free/no-charge for this school year.
- If you qualified for school meals with the Free – NJEIE qualification, you are NOT eligible for the Summer EBT program; only students who qualified as Federally free or reduced can receive the Summer EBT reimbursement.
- Federal Free or Reduced or Free – NJEIE categories entitle the student to one compliant breakfast and one compliant lunch per school day.
- To be considered “compliant” (reimbursable), breakfast must consist of 3 food items, one of which must be a fruit or juice, and lunch must consist of 3 food items, one of which must be a fruit/juice or vegetable.
- It is mandatory under USDA rules that charges to student lunch account must occur if minimum requirements to make a meal are not met. Any items over or under maximum for meal limit will be charged at a la carte prices.
B. Although not required, we strongly encourage you to complete the School Meals Application. Even if you feel you will not qualify due to your household income, this data may be used for other statistical evaluations and grant opportunities for the school district.
